OKINAWA, Japan -- Friday’s season opener at the U.S. Marine Corps Base in Okinawa, Japan between Gonzaga and Pittsburgh was canceled after the floor was declared unsafe.

The two teams played in the first half, but after halftime officials labeled the court ‘terribly unsafe’ and canceled the rest of the game. The canceled game means records for both teams will remain 0-0.

“We wished we could have finished this,” said Gonzaga Head Coach Mark Few after the game. “In the short time we've been here, the impact you've had on myself and our players is something we'll always cherish. There's no one tougher than you guys. You're heroes to us and heroes to everyone back home."

Gonzaga trailed 37-35 at halftime while only shooting 43% from the free throw line. Similar to GU’s exhibition game against Eastern Oregon, Senior Kyle Wiltjer led all scorers with 15 first half points.

Gonzaga'a game with Pittsburgh isn't the first game to be canceled due to unsafe floor condition. In 2012, Ohio State and Marquette's game on the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier was canceled because it was too dangerous.
