SPOKANE, Wash. -- Senior forward Kyle Wiltjer found his stroke in the first half on his way to 33 points to help Gonzaga defeat Eastern Oregon 90-58 in an exhibition game on Saturday at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

After making just two of his first seven shots, Wiltjer made seven of his next eight on the way to 24 first half points. During his hot streak, the Zags outscored EOU 21-0 to take a 32-15 lead. For the game, Wiltjer was 12-for-21 from the field, including 3-for-8 from behind the arc. Four other Zags scored in double figures as well with third from Przemek Karnowski, 12 from Eric McClellan, and 10 from Josh Perkins and Ryan Edwards.

"[We had] flashes of really good things and a stretch of defense from the 15 to 4-minute mark in the first half," head coach Mark Few said. "We moved the ball well. Now we have a big game coming up in less than a week and we have to be ready."

Gonzaga outrebounded the Mountaineers 58-35, led by a game-high 14 from Wiltjer and 11 from Karnowski. The Zags also had just nine turnovers in the game, and forced 16 by Eastern Oregon.

The Mountaineers jumped out to leads of 8-1 and 15-11 before the big Gonzaga run that broke the game open. GU led 47-29 at the half.

It was more of the same in the second half with a 10-1 run from the Zags for a 57-32 lead. The run was spurred by a three from Perkins and a pair of field goals from Wiltjer.

GU pushed the lead to as many as 38 at 90-52 before finishing with a 32-point victory.

Perkins added a game-high five assists, while Wiltjer led the way with four steals.

Gonzaga will open the season in Okinawa, Japan, on Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. against Pittsburgh as part of the Armed Forces Classic. The game will be played at United States Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler at Camp Foster and televised on ESPN.
