Idaho Men's Basketball Picked 7th/8th in Big Sky

The Idaho men’s basketball team has been picked to finish eighth, according to the preseason coaches’ poll announced by the Big Sky Conference on Thursday.  The Vandals were picked to finish seventh in the media poll. OGDEN, Utah – The Idaho men’s basketball team has been picked to finish eighth, according to the preseason coaches’ poll announced by the Big Sky Conference on Thursday.  The Vandals were picked to finish seventh in the media poll.

Weber State was the top pick among coaches, while Montana took the edge in the media poll.  The Vandals tied with North Dakota for eighth in the coaches’ poll with 52 points and tied for seventh with Portland State in the media poll with 109 points.

The Vandals went 13-17 last season, eventually falling to Eastern Washington in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament.  Idaho returns several key members from last year’s squad, including Arkadiy Mkrtychyan and Perrion Callandret.  Mkrtychyan averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season, while Callandret added 6.7 points, 2.5 boards and 1.6 assists per contest.  The Vandals also added senior transfer Chris Sarbaugh in the offseason.  Sarbaugh, a Spokane native, spent the last two seasons at the University of San Diego.

Idaho opens up 2015-16 with a pair of exhibitions in Memorial Gym, on October 30 and November 6.  The regular season gets underway on November 14, with a trip to San Jose State.  The Big Sky Tournament will take place in Reno, Nevada this year, beginning on March 8 and ending on March 12.  All 12 teams makes the tournament.

    Needing a win to secure an outright conference title, the Gonzaga Bulldogs raced out to a lead and never looked back Saturday on the road at BYU.
