EVERETT, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs were shut out, 4-0, by the hosting Everett Silvertips in their second preseason game of the year on Saturday night. Second-year goaltender Tyson Verhelst started for the Chiefs in goal, stopping 26 of 30 shots faced.

After a scoreless opening period, 18-year-old forward Matt Fonteyne opened the scoring for the Silvertips, using an assist from Patrick Bajkov to beat Verhelst at the 11:57 mark of the second.

Former Saskatoon Blade Mackenzie Dwyer tacked on Everett's second goal just under five minutes later to give the host team a 2-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Another new Silvertip pushed their lead to 3-0 early in the third period, as former Red Deer Rebel Cole Chorney found the back of the net at the 5:04 mark. Rookie forward Spencer Gerth earned an assist on the play.

Russian import winger Yan Khomenko scored a power play goal at the 7:52 mark of the third period to extend Everett's lead to 4-0. Dwyer and forward Graham Millar both earned their second points of the night with assists on the play.

The Chiefs continue their preseason schedule on Sunday afternoon with an early 3 p.m. game against the Seattle Thunderbirds at Xfinity Arena in Everett. They host their only home preseason game of the season at Spokane Arena, 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. General admission tickets are on sale now for $10 through the Chiefs' Ticket Office.

Spokane opens its 2015 regular season against the Tri-City Americans with Bud Light Opening Night at Spokane Arena on Saturday, September 26.
