While Eastern Washington University opens fall football camp this week in Cheney, the Eagles will be playing the "waiting game" to find out which quarterback they will face in their season opener in Eugene, Or.

Last year's starter for the Eagles, Vernon Adams Jr., is in Eugene. He is set to take an online math test Thursday, which will determine his academic eligibility for the upcoming season.

Adams transferred to Oregon from Eastern Washington during the offseason, and as luck would have it the Ducks and Eagles face off in both team's season opener on Sept. 5.

SWX was at Eastern Washington practice Wednesday to ask Eagles head coach Beau Baldwin: if Adams were to fail that exam, and if Adams asked to rejoin the Eagles, would Baldwin let him come back?

"It doesn't matter who it is, once you decide you're moving on and this is where you're going, it can't be a revolving door," Baldwin said.

"It would go against in a lot of ways — in almost every way — everything that we talk about as a team in terms of no one is bigger than the team, no one has special privileges, no one is entitled and no one is above anything and he knows that."

"There was never any thought of (him returning)," Baldwin said. "But again I'm crossing my fingers again that he can keep moving forward and still have a great senior year."

Hours before that crucial exam, Adams tweeted out a link to a message on his Instagram account Wednesday night. The full text of that message reads:

"I just want EVERYBODY to know.. I never wanted ANY of this attention on me, good or bad. I wish I could have passed my math class the first time. But everything happens for a reason, right? To all of you who want me to succeed & have been praying for me: Thank you so much & God bless you & your family. To all of you Haters who want me to fail & wish bad on me: Thank you so much & God bless you & your family, too. Appreciate all of you. You know who you are. #AGTG"

If Adams passes that final off-field test, he could very well be lining up across from Baldwin and his former teammates in their first game of the season at Autzen stadium.
