SPOKANE, Wash. -- With an eighth-inning, bases-loaded base hit, Leon Byrd Jr., turned into the Indians' hero as Spokane edged the Eugene Emeralds 4-1 on Sunday at Avista Stadium in front of 3,792 fans. It was Breast Cancer Awareness Day Game presented by Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade, Rock 94 1/2 and KXLY-AM 920.

After walking Dean Long to load the bases to help force a double play, Byrd hit the first pitch he saw that squeezed through the gap and into left field to score Darius Day and Yeyson Yrizarri to break a 1-all tie. On the ensuing at-bat, Ti'Quan Forbes singled home Long for the game's final 3-run lead.

Joe Palumbo started on the mound for Spokane, tossing five innings and striking out two. He allowed four hits and one run to lower his ERA to 2.80. Adam Choplick earned his second win of the season with a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one. Ashton Perrit picked up his first save.

Eugene started NWL All-Star Oscar De La Cruz on the mound. The right-hander scattered six hits in 5.2 innings while striking out three. He lowered his ERA to 2.80.

Avista Stadium will host the inaugural 2015 Northwest/Pioneer Baseball League All-Star Game, presented by Cenex Zip Trip Stores, KHQ-TV, SportsRadio 1510 KGA and The Spokesman-Review, on Tuesday, August 4th.
