For the sixth time in his career, Mariners ace Felix Hernandez has been named an MLB All-Star. Hernandez was the only Mariners player added to the American League team on Monday, when pitchers and backup position players were announced. He joins teammate Nelson Cruz, who was voted by the fans as the AL's starting designated hitter.
Hernandez started last year's All-Star Game, pitching a scoreless first inning in the AL's 5-3 victory at Target Field in Minneapolis.
This year's All-Star game will be July 14 in Cincinnati. The rest of the American League pitching staff includes Chris Archer and Brad Boxberger of the Tampa Bay Rays, relievers Zach Britton and Darren O'Day of the Orioles and Kansas City's Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera. Oakland's Sonny Gray, Detroit's David Price and Chris Sale of the White Sox were selected for the game, as were Yankees reliever Dellin Betances, Astros starter Dallas Keuchel and Twins closer Glen Perkins.
