DETROIT -- Former Washington State center Aron Baynes made a splash in motor city on Thursday by signing a three-year deal with the Detroit Pistons in what could be as much as a $20-million contract, according to ESPN's Marc Stein and league sources.

Baynes earned the most playing time of his career last season, averaging 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16 minutes per game. The New Zealand-born big man was signed as a free agent by the San Antonio Spurs in 2013 after playing in Europe following his graduation from WSU in 2009.

As a Cougar Baynes averaged 8.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during his four years, with 12.7 ppg and 7.5 rpg as a senior.

The Pistons will use Baynes as the backup for Andre Drummond, the same role he played with the Spurs.

Baynes is also a key part of the Australian senior men's national team. He averaged 16.8 points and 7 rebounds over six games for the Boomers at the FIBA World Championships in Spain in 2014.
