COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – Frontier Ice Arena will host Hockey Fest, two days featuring a youth skills camp and an exhibition hockey game on July 9th and 10th featuring local professional players and NHL legends to benefit youth hockey in the area.

Thursday, July 9th, is designed for families. A free event, this evening features the Tyler Johnson Hockey Camp for kids, ages 5-12, to be coached by Tampa Bay Lighting star, Tyler Johnson. Though the Camp is currently full, there are plenty of other activities for the family. Local youth hockey organizations will have booths and games set up, including a hardest shot competition, squirt gun challenge course and much more! Activities begin at 4:30 pm.

Friday, July 10th, will feature a game between NHL legends, including Wayne Gretzky, Brendan Morrow, and Tampa Bay Lightning star Tyler Johnson, and several other local and professional players. Kootenai Health, a prominent asset in the North Idaho community, is one of the main sponsors of the Legends Game during Hockey Fest. Many local players, such as the Yamamoto brothers from the Spokane Chiefs will join Johnson in the game. Game time starts at 6pm and will be broadcast live on SWX.

“I was just like all these young kids at one point and would have done anything to just get on the ice more and learn from high-level players, it’s a great feeling being able to give back to these kids,” Johnson said. “My goal is to teach these youth players a few things, but also for them to have fun and get them excited about the amazing sport that is hockey!”

Hockey is an expensive sport and the goal of Hockey Fest is to make the sport more accessible to families and get more kids involved. Hockey Fest will benefit the non-profit Frontier Ice Arena and local youth hockey associations. There will be a silent auction on Thursday with items including a signed Tyler Johnson jersey and a raffle for a full set of Warrior hockey gear.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 1st at 9am. Tickets prices range from $60-$100 and can be purchased in person at the ice rink or by calling (208) 765-4423.
