Downtown Spokane will be filled with basketball participants this weekend, but right now they're spread out on Spokane's community courts, practicing. Hillyard's Marlon Pratt says their basketball court is always packed in the summer.
"I'm out here a lot," Pratt said. "Us, the neighbors, everyone. It's just a block from where we live."
And the sweltering heat doesn't stop him.
"It's pretty hot, but once you run, sweat, and the wind hits you, it's not hot at all."
He says he'd rather be braving the summer sun with his family than stuck inside. For Pratt and his kids, basketball in the summer is a family affair.
"We locked the video games up and, a hid I the remote controls so here we are."
And this court is where his family spends their summer.
"Bills are sky high staying in. At least out here it's free!" Pratt said, laughing.
