SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga's reserve guard Connor Griffin is transferring to the University of Washington to pursue a football career with the Huskies after spending the last two seasons on Mark Few's bench.

Griffin made the decision to transfer and bring his talents to the gridiron after this past season in late May.

Griffin appeared in only 29 games for the Zags (15 as a freshman and 14 last season) and amassed only nine points during his sophomore season during his 52 minutes on the court after walking on to the team despite football scholarship offers from the likes of Portland State and Northern Colorado.

The 6-foot-4 guard was labeled as a freak athlete and excited Gonzaga faithful while competing in the slam dunk contest at Kraziness in the Kennel and wuth a few jams in his rare game action. Pictures of one of his dunks can be found in the slideshow below.

Griffin was a highly-touted football player while at Lake Oswego, earning All-State honors as a senior with 919 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns.

"I have more potential in football and missed the game," Griffin told the Portland Tribune. "I knew at some point I was going to play college football. I didn't know if it was going to be for just one year after I was through with basketball, or more."

Griffin will have three more years of eligibility on the football field after choosing UW over Montana and Portland State. He confirmed his decision with various retweets on Twitter (see below).

"We lost four guys and I was going to be fighting for more playing time," Griffin told the Tribune. "But in the end, I had to listen to my heart and pursue football. I owed it to myself to explore my options and see what else was out there."
