The Texas Rangers selected right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate from UC Santa Barbara with the No. 4 overall selection in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Spokane Indians are a Minor League affiliate of the Rangers.

The Claremont, Calif., native finished his 2015 college season with a 111 strikeouts and a 2.26 ERA as the Gauchos' closer. He allowed just 5.75 hits per nine innings which ranks 11th in the nation. One of his more impressive stats is the fact that he only allowed three home runs in his three-year career, one of which was to Chicago Cubs' rookie phenom, Kris Bryant.

Tate had his best performance as a member of the U.S. collegiate national team's bullpen last summer. He uses a fastball that sits between 92-98 mph, and a 86-87 mph slider to confuse opposing hitters. He also carries a curveball and changeup in his arsenal. He projects as a closer, however, would be able to start thanks to his elite athleticism.
