SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth junior Megan John became the first Pirate softball player to earn Academic All-America honors today when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Softball Team.

The official CoSIDA release and complete list is attached. John is listed on the Second Team as a designated player.

John is from Beaverton, Oregon. She has a 3.97 grade point average through January term and is a health science major. She had previously been voted First Team Academic All-District 8.

John batted .321 this season with three home runs and ten doubles among her 36 base-hits. She drove in 28 runs and scored 20 times, helping the Pirates average more than 5.3 runs per contest in 2015.

John helped the Bucs claim their first-ever Northwest Conference championship in softball and set a school record with 31 victories in one season.

To qualify for nomination to the Academic All-District and All-America team a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 and be of sophomore standings. The nominees must also be a starter, or key reserve.
