SPOKANE, Wash. - Senior catcher Joshua Davis has been named a Third Team All-American by both D3Baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), to highlight national recognition given to four Whitworth baseball players this week.

Davis was recognized as a D3Baseball.com Third Team All-American on Wednesday before being named an ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-American on Thursday. He had previously been named a First Team All-West Region choice by both D3Baseball.com and the ABCA.

Davis split time between catcher and first base defensively for the Pirates and was a force all season long hitting in the middle of the Whitworth lineup. A four-year starter, Davis hit .353 with 36 RBIs, 10 home runs and a conference-leading 45 runs scored during his senior season. He also posted a .997 fielding percentage and threw out eight runners attempting to steal.

Senior pitching ace Dan Scheibe was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region First Team along with Davis. Scheibe was honored earlier in the week as a D3Baseball.com All-West Region Second Team selection.

Scheibe went 9-3 on the mound and posted a 2.10 ERA. He averaged 11.51 strikeouts per nine innings and was among the national leaders in strikeouts with 104 over 81 ? innings pitched. The right-hander also tossed the first nine-inning no-hitter by a Whitworth pitcher in the metal bat era during the NWC Tournament.

Junior center fielder Jeremy Druffel and sophomore designated hitter Matthew Nelson were named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region Third Team. Druffel had previously been selected to the D3Baseball.com All-West Region Second Team.

Druffel provided a consistent threat in the middle of the lineup all season long, batting .382 with 37 runs scored and 30 RBIs. He tied with Davis for the team lead with 42 games played and totaled 12 stolen bases. Druffel had a .987 fielding percentage playing primarily in center field for Whitworth.

Despite missing a portion of the season with an injury, Nelson hit .326 during the year with six home runs, 28 RBIs and 13 runs scored hitting behind Davis in the batting order. Nelson split time between designated hitter and playing in the outfield for the Pirates.

Davis, Scheibe, Druffel and Nelson were each All-NWC First Team performers for the 2015 season.
