Heptathalon, Decathalon Wrap Up At Big Sky Track & Field Championships

CHENEY, Wash. -- Eastern Washington University's Jozie Kimes finished 10th overall in the women's heptathlon as the final day of the combined events at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships wrapped up at Roos Field on Thursday.

Kimes accumulated a total of 4,448 points over two days in the heptathlon – with 1,829 of those points scored Thursday in the long jump, javelin, and 800. Her highest point total from today's competition of 737 came in the 800 where she ran a time of 2:26.5. She leaped 17-0 (609) in the long jump and threw 99-6 (483) in the javelin.

The Cashmere, Wash., native improved from 11th place (2,619) from the first day of competition. Her highest point total of 753 came in the 100 hurdles, where she ran 15.69. She scored 712 points with a season-best in the high jump of 5-2 1/4. Kimes also recorded a season-best of 27.53 in the 200 for 668 points and had a mark of 30-7 3/4 in the shot put to score 486 points.

Montana State's Carley McCutchen and Danielle Muri finished first and second, respectively, in the heptathlon with point totals of 5,273 and 5,052. Kassandra Corrigan from Sacramento State finished third (4,995).

On the men's side, Idaho State's Logan Henderson won the decathlon with a total of 6,904 points. Sacramento State's Alec Acevedo and Max Jette finished second and third, respectively, with point totals of 6,833 and 6,565.

The regular portion of the meet kicks off Friday (May 15) with the field events at 10 a.m. followed by the running events at 2:10. Field events on Saturday (May 16) begin at 10 a.m., followed by the running events at noon.
