SPOKANE, Wash. -- Reigning Bloomsday champion Josh George maintained his crown and 11-time Paralympic medalist Tatyana McFadden earned her first Bloomsday Elite women's wheelchair title in her first attempt.

McFadden usurped the win from fellow University of Illinois wheelchair athlete, Tekoa native and two-time Bloomsday champion Susannah Scaroni, who finished second behind the current world champion.

Both Fighting Illini wheelchair racers went neck-and-neck for most of the race before McFadden pulled away to join George as the 2015 Bloomsday champions.

"I couldn't be happier with the way the race turned out today," Scaroni said. "Tatyana [McFadden] is such an amazing athlete that I feel privileged to have stayed as close to her as I did today."
