SPOKANE, Wash. -- Cynthia Limo held off two challengers down the final stretch to win the Bloomsday Elite Female title in her first attempt with a time of 39:27 on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Kenyan finished out sprinted Ruti Aga (39:28) of Ethiopia and fellow country-woman Jane Kibii (39:39) in the final 100 feet of the race after the trio had been neck-and-neck for the majority of the 12K.

Limo has been on a hot streak in the road racing circuit this season with wins at the Hy-Vee Half Marathon and Cooper River Bridge Run, along with second place finishes at the Crescent City Classic 10K, Cherry Blossom 10 Mile and World's Best 10K.

Risper Gesabwa finished fourth, 31 seconds after the leading threesome crossed the finish line with a time of 40:00 even. Three-time Bloomsday champ Lineth Chepkuri (2008, 2009 and 2010) placed seventh with a time of 40:20. Chepkuri almost picked up her fourth win last year when she finished second by two seconds behind 2014 Bloomsday champion Mary Wacera, who scratched a couple of days before this year's running.

Blake Russell was the first American to cross the finish line on Monroe Street Bridge  with a time of 40:57 to place 12th fresh off of her Asics Los Angeles Marathon third-place finish. Russell was a 2008 Olympian and at 39 was the oldest member of the Elite women's field. Lindsey Scherf was the second American to finish.

Emma Kertesz of Pullman was the first in-state finisher with a time of 43:43.
