SWXRightNow.com -- The Atlanta Falcons have selected Eastern Washington offensive tackle Jake Rodgers with the 225th overall selection in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

The 6-foot-6, 320 pound Shadle Park High School grad was a two-year starter for the Eags during their 2013 and 2014 Big Sky Championship seasons after transferring to Cheney, Wash. from Washington State. Rodgers also started 12 games for the Cougs in 2012 before he transferred.

Scouts gave Rodgers praise for his size and his quickness off the line and his hand position but desire more strength and the ability to maintain the assets he already has when he's forced to play in a three-point stance in the NFL after spending most of his time in a two-point stance at EWU.

"The Falcons just drafted a great player and an even better person," Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin tweeted out after the selection was announced.

Rodgers is the first Eagle offensive lineman taken in the NFL Draft since Michael Roos was selected by the Tennesse Titans in the second round in 2005.

Tragedy struck Rodgers and his family during the FCS Semifinals when his father suffered a heart attack in the stands watching Jake play in what would ultimately be his final game at EWU. Unfortunately, Rodgers' father passed away two weeks later, but now it is safe to say he made his father very proud on Saturday.
