Academic All-Star: Kennewick's Josh Kutzke

KENNEWICK, WA- Kennewick senior Josh Kutzke has made a lot of noise for the Lions this season, but don't let that fool you.

"I'm kind of shy and people don't really know that.  They think I am just outgoing because I play so many sports, but I'm a shy person.  Sports give me an outlet to be myself."

Kutzke plays football, basketball and baseball at Kennewick.  The three-sport athlete manages maintain a 3.9 GPA.

"It's hard work but you've got to be committed. Every night it's homework, sports, homework, eat, sleep, repeat."

His coaches appreciate his leadership on the floor just as much as they appreciate his jump shot.

"He's a consummate leader, he's a three sport athletes. You know he spent time at quarterback on the football team, so having a kid with his academic insight on the court is another leader another floor general out there. He's a great kid to have."

Out of the three sports he plays, Kutzke says its basketball that keeps him on his toes.

"I don't know just different things can happen every play...it's not like football where you have to do a set play or anything can happen you never really know."

He hopes his final season in the Lion's Den will be the team's best yet.

"We just have to keep our heads in the game and not let anything get to us. We bounce back pretty good to like when we lost week two against Moses Lake and voiced back and look where we are now."

But, he says once basketball season ends there's no time for a break.  He's already ready to head out to the baseball diamond.
