Academic All-Star: Hanford's Brady Heid

RICHLAND, WA  - Hanford's Brady Heid never has to think twice about his top priority.

"School is always first. It's what my parents have drilled into my mind since I was as young as I can remember. But I just try to work as hard as I can in school and it translates to the court," Heid said.

The senior point guard for the Hanford Falcons doesn't just excel in the classroom, he enjoys it.  "I like my classes. I like my friends in my classes. They definitely help me along the way, I've got some pretty smart friends too so that helps. But my teachers, everything is great and I like Hanford too so it's all a win win," Heid added.

Heid balances school and sports along with a student council senator title, national honor society and key club.  But he always makes a little extra time for hoops.  "I've been playing basketball since I can remember. It's just one of those things that took my interest when I was just tiny and never wanna give it up," Heid added.

He prides himself on being a hard worker.  It's a trait that doesn't go unnoticed by his coaches.  "I never have to ask him to work hard. He works hard every single day, practice, game, he's consistent and reliable. Any coach will tell you he's a pleasure to be around," said Paul Mayer, Hanford boys basketball coach.

"It feels good knowing that people notice what I work hard at," Heid said.

This will be Heid's final season on the Hanford gym floor, and he thinks this one may just be the best yet.  "Just the camaraderie we have. It's so fun playing with these guys and we're all great friends. And this year it's looking so good so far and it's fun knowing that the hard work we put in together as a team and friends is paying off," Heid added.
