CHENEY, Wash. -- Cornerback Rashad Wadood -- Eastern's second Pac-12 Conference transfer in as many seasons – has been admitted and enrolled at Eastern Washington University, and will join the Eagle football program when practices begin on July 31, head coach Beau Baldwin announced Wednesday, July 16.

The Arizona State University transfer and Long Beach, Calif., native played in 20 games as a Sun Devil – 10 each in 2011 and 2013. Interestingly, the final high school game of his career came against current Eastern quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.

"We're excited to add a player like Rashad with his skill and experience," said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin. "He provides leadership and experience at a position where it is needed. We've heard nothing but great things about this young man, not only in terms of his ability to play the game, but also his character on and off the field."

Wadood (pronounced "Wah-doo") is a welcome addition to an Eagle secondary that lost both of its starting cornerbacks and its top backup from last year's squad. Currently listed on the preseason depth chart as starters are junior Frank Cange and redshirt freshman Jake Hoffman. Among the returning safeties are UCLA transfer Tevin McDonald, who earned third team All-Big Sky Conference honors a year ago for the Eagles.

The Eagles have already been picked as a preseason No. 1 team in the NCAA Football Championship subdivision by several magazines.

"I'm anxious to come in and contribute where I can to an already good team," Wadood said. "As far as FCS schools go, Eastern is the best and has a strong history. Every FBS school respects Eastern. I knew a little about their program before I decided to transfer."

Wadood saw action at ASU as a true freshman in 2011, playing in the school's first 10 games. He had six tackles – all coming is six separate games -- before suffering a season-ending knee injury in a 37-27 loss against Washington State on Nov. 12, 2011. His luck was no better in 2012 when a torn labrum forced him to redshirt.

In 2013, all seven of his tackles came against Colorado on Oct. 12 in an overwhelming 54-13 win in which the Sun Devils led at halftime 47-6. He was listed as a starter at cornerback on ASU's depth chart this past spring.

While at Lakewood High School in Long Beach, Calif., Wadood ranked among the top 60 cornerback prospects in the nation. His career came to an end on Nov. 26, 2010, when Lakewood lost to Adams and Alemany High School 42-21 in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Playoffs. Interestingly, that very evening was when Eastern offered a scholarship to Adams.

"Pretty much everything he is doing now he was doing back then," added Wadood, who also has associations with former Eagles Marcus Walker (2005-06-07-08) and Ryan Kelley (2007-08). "So it's no surprise to see the success he is having in college."

Rashad Wadood Bio Arizona State: Played in 10 games in 2013, registering seven tackles in a 54-13 victory against Colorado (10/12/13). A torn labrum forced him to redshirt the 2012 season, but he spent time on the scout team as a defensive back. He played in 10 games at cornerback and special teams as a true freshman in 2011, finishing with six tackles. He suffered a season-ending knee injury versus Washington State (11/12/11). Former Eagle Marcus Walker (2005-06-07-08) is the ASU football program's academic coach.

HS: Graduated in 2011 from Lakewood High School in Long Beach, Calif. Named to the PrepStar All-West Region Team following his senior season. Ranked by Scout.com as the No. 60 cornerback prospect in the nation, listed as the No. 82 cornerback in the country by ESPN. Earned second team All-Southern California honors in 2010 by GoldenStatePreps.com. Registered 40 tackles and three interceptions on defense as a senior and rushed for over 800 yards and nine touchdowns. He helped his team advance to the quarterfinals of the of the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Playoffs on Nov. 26, 2010, falling 42-21 to Alemany and eventual EWU quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. Totaled 37 tackles, six pass deflections and three interceptions as a junior in 2009 and added 73 carries for 602 yards (8.3 average per rush) with five touchdowns. In his junior season he helped lead Lakewood to the Moore League championship and the CIF-SS Pac-5 semifinals. Chose ASU over Colorado and Miami (Fla.) and also had scholarship offers from Colorado State, Idaho and Washington State. He had a 4.49 40-yard dash time in high school.

Personal: Born 9/13/92 in Los Angeles. His mother is Aneesah Wadood. He's trained in California with former Eagle cornerback Ryan Kelley (2007-08). Intends to major in interdisciplinary studies. Last name is pronounced "Wah-doo."
