Fever QB Houston Lillard Earns IFL Player of the Week Honor

Posted: Updated:
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 13.

Offensive Players of the Week: Houston Lillard (QB, Tri-Cities Fever)

Houston Lillard (6’0, 215 lbs./Southeast Missouri State) becomes our first repeat
Offensive Player of the Week winner in 2014 (Week 9). The Fever (5-6) defeated the Texas Revolution (2-8) 55-34 on Saturday night. After a 1-5 start, the Fever have won 4 of their last 5 games. In just 7 games this season, Lillard ranks 4th in the league in passing yards and passing TDs (1364 passing yards, 29 TDs). He is 2nd in the league in
passing yards per game with 194.9 (minimum of 5 games). The Fever currently sit 3 games back in the loss column for the final spot in the Intense Conference standings. The team will need to be perfect down the stretch if they hope to participate in postseason play. Next up for the Fever is a home matchup against the Wyoming Cavalry (1-10) this weekend.
Honorable Mention:
Ryan Balentin (WR, Bemidji Axemen)
Troy Evans (RB, Nebraska Danger)
Jameel Sewell (QB, Nebraska Danger)
Clinton Solomon (WR, Texas Revolution)

Defensive Player of the Week: Eze Obiora (DL, Sioux Falls Storm)

In just his second game with the three-time defending champion Storm, Eze Obiora (6’2,
255 lbs./Southern Illinois) is quickly carving out a spot for himself on the team’s vaunted defensive unit. Sioux Falls (10-0) remained perfect after a 34-13 victory over the Bemidji Axemen (5-6) in Week 13. During the game, Obiora registered 8 tackles, including 4 sacks. The 4 sacks ties a single game high for the 2014 season (Bryson
Kelly, Wyoming Week 6). This weekend the Storm put their undefeated record on the line against the Texas Revolution (2-8).

Honorable Mention:
Javicz Jones (LB, Texas Revolution)
Clarence Laster (DB, Wyoming Cavalry)
Harold Love (DL, Tri-Cities Fever)
Danny Mason Jr. (LB, Colorado Ice)

Special Teams Player of the Week: Dontrell Johnson (KR, Green Bay Blizzard)

In his IFL debut, Dontrell Johnson (5’9, 185 lbs./Murray State) becomes the first member of the Green Bay Blizzard to earn Player of the Week honors in 2014. It has been a disappointing season for the Blizzard (0-10). After a 63-44 loss to the Nebraska Danger in Week 13, the team has now lost 15 straight games dating back to May 18, 2013, a streak that ties the Alaska Wild (’09-10) for the longest in IFL history. However, there have been some bright spots for the Blizzard this season. In the loss, Johnson set an IFL single game high with 171 kick return yards on Saturday night. He also contributed 7 tackles from the defensive backfield. Finding playmakers like Johnson will help build momentum for the team heading into next season. This weekend, the Blizzard travel to Cedar Rapids to take on the Titans (8-2).

Honorable Mention:
Brady Beeson (K, Tri-Cities Fever)
Parker Douglass (K, Sioux Falls Storm)
Joe Houston (K, Nebraska Danger)
Philip Welch (K, Colorado Ice)
