Shadow Release Secondary Logo

The Spokane Shadow unveiled a new secondary mark that incorporates the iconography of Spokane, the history of the men’s team and a more traditional crest design. The new look, created by league partner Viking Design Studio, will be available on merchandise sold at the club’s Evergreen Premier League matches and soon on the Online Shop.

The design features a silhouette of Spokane’s Riverfront Park skyline, displaying the clock tower, pavilion and IMAX theater above the Shadow logo, which remains in its original design aside from the current red and blue color scheme.

“The new design is a fantastic representation of Spokane while still maintaining the traditional Shadow logo,” said Spokane Shadow General Manager Gerald Barnhart. “Using the skyline of Riverfront Park could not have been more appropriate as it is not only one of the area’s greatest attractions, but is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of Expo ’74 for which the park was created. That amazing event began a tradition of Spokane hosting events that attract visitors from around the world, and now the Shadow continue to present the world’s game as part of that tradition.”

The clock tower remains from the Great Northern Railway depot that was demolished in constructing the park and the pavilion that was created to house the 1974 World’s Fair, the first to ever feature an environmental theme. The current IMAX building symbolized in the design is a replacement of the original theater that housed the world’s largest indoor movie screen at the time of the event.

Beneath the Shadow logo, the Spokane River and falls are represented. The three stripes representing the moving water represent the original Shadow that played in the USL PDL from 1995-2005, the youth club that was forged through that team and the new re-launched Shadow of the EPLWA. The moving water is shown cascading over the falls, utilizing a pentagon - a traditional soccer shape from the ball paneling – representing the several large rock formations within the riverbed near the falls and featuring 95, the founding year of the Shadow. Sky blue is the third prominent color in the design, indicative of the original Shadow logo that was sky and navy blue. Also, the logo is reminiscent of the club’s 1999 PDL Championship logo designed for when the club hosted the league’s championship, one of the team’s greatest moments.

“Viking Design Studio and Timothy Hamilton were fantastic,” said Barnhart. “I gave them a fairly crude mock-up of the design idea and we completed the process within the period of about a week. The design was nearly perfect from the first version we received. ”

"We were very pleased to be able to work with the Shadow on their secondary mark,” said Timothy Hamilton of Viking Design. “We wanted create a design that would appeal to long time supporters of the club and new fans alike. We are excited to be apart of the Shadow's new chapter in the EPLWA, and we wish them all the best in their inaugural season."

The Spokane Shadow open their season May 3 at the newly-renovated Spokane Falls Community College. Ticket packages and merchandise are available athttps://squareup.com/market/ssc-shadow-soccer-club
