Eastern Washington University head coach Beau Baldwin will serve as Honorary Grand Marshal of the Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade May 17 in Spokane, Wash., and will also make two speaking appearances next week.

The announcement of Baldwin serving as Honorary Grand Marshal was made last Saturday (April 12). The Armed Forces Torchlight Parade, the largest of its kind in the nation, begins at 7:45 p.m. on May 17.

Next Monday (April 21), Baldwin will join his All-America quarterback Vernon Adams for a speaking engagement at 1:15 p.m. at Rogers High School in Spokane, Wash. Their appearance is one of eight speeches given by EWU Student-Athletes in conjunction with “Eagle Week” at EWU. The presentation by the student-athletes will focus on an acrostic of EAGLE – Education, Attitude, Grit, Leadership and Excellence.

Also next week, Baldwin will speak at the annual Spokane Youth Sports Association Breakfast on Thursday (April 24) at Northern Quest Resort and Casino. The breakfast, which raises funds for the SYSA Financial Assistance Program, begins at 7:30 a.m. More information is available at: http://www.sysa.com/breakfast.

The Spokane Lilac Festival Co-Presidents are Joan Petow and Cecelia Stephens, and they said Baldwin was chosen because he showcases Spokane in such a positive light with his teamwork and successes. They said part of their mission statement is showcasing the region, and that the 2014 Lilac year is a year of “teamwork.”

Since 1938, the Spokane Lilac Festival has been celebrating the Spokane community as ambassadors to the northwest and the world. Their mission is "Honoring Our Military, Recognizing Our Youth, and Showcasing Our Community." More information is available at: http://spokanelilacfestival.org.

Baldwin is now 56-22 in six seasons as a head coach (2008-13), with four NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoff berths (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013) and one national title (2010). He is 38-10 in Big Sky Conference games, with league titles in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

His .792 winning percentage in league games is the best-ever by an Eastern head coach and currently ranks fifth in the 50-year history of the Big Sky Conference. His 38 Big Sky victories are a school record, four better than the EWU head coach he previously served under, Paul Wulff (2000-2007). Baldwin’s .718 percentage overall is now eighth in league history.

Eight Student-Athlete Speaking Engagements Featured as Part of “Eagle Week”Eastern Washington University student-athletes will give a presentation to eight local area schools as part of “Eagle Week” taking place April 21-26 at EWU.
