PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State head women’s basketball coach June Daugherty announced that Louise Brown has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the program as a freshman next season.

Brown, a 6-2 forward out of Park Orchards, Victoria, Australia, has played on Australia’s Victoria Metro state teams the past four years. She helped her state team earn a gold medal playing at the Under 16 Nationals in 2010, another gold medal playing at the Under 18 Nationals in 2011. She also won the FIBA Oceania Championships on the Australia Under 17 Team and earning the Victoria School Sports Award for outstanding achievement by a secondary school student.

In 2012, Brown helped the national team to a fifth place finish at the FIBA Under 17 World Championships in Amsterdam, averaging a team-best 8.4 rpg in eight games. Last season, Brown led her state team to a gold medal in the Under 20 Nationals and also helped national team to a third-place finish at the FIBA Under 19 World Championships in Lithuania. Twice she earned an Australia Institute of Sport scholarship. So far in 2014, Brown picked up another gold medal after leading her state’s Under 20 team. She was ranked No. 9 among international high school recruits according topeachstatebasketball.com.

“Louise is a very versatile athlete with a tremendous ability to rebound and run the floor. She has an extremely high basketball IQ and can score inside and out,” Daugherty stated. “Louise’s experience as an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder, on her State teams in Victoria, as well as playing for the Australian National teams will be invaluable during her transition to the Pac-12. Louise knows how to win and is a person of great character. We are so excited for her to join our Cougar basketball family!”

“Washington State University is like nothing we have over here in Australia,” Brown said. “The entire atmosphere that surrounds the school and the basketball program, combined with the welcoming and friendly environment, drew me right in. After visiting two other great schools, WSU was where I could see myself fitting in the best. With such an incredible coaching staff, I know that my future here will not only involve me growing as a player, but also as person. The opportunity that WSU has given me still feels so surreal; and I'm an extremely lucky kid! I cannot wait to be a part of an up and coming team in the Pac-12, with many exciting years ahead of me!!"

Brown joins an already impressive signing class that is rated one of the top recruiting classes in the country by Blue Star Basketball. Also joining the Cougars later this fall are 6-2 guard Ashley Bolston (Medford, Ore.), 5-9 guard Caila Hailey (Inglewood, Calif.), 6-3 forward Nike McClure (Tenino, Wash.) and 5-8 point guard Pinelopi Pavlopoulou (Athens, Greece).
