The No. 9 NCAA ranked Oregon baseball team defeated Gonzaga 3-2 despite the Zags loading the bases three times and making a game of it in the bottom of the 9th inning at the Patterson Baseball Complex on Tuesday, April 1st.

The Ducks (20-8) spread out their three runs between the fourth, fifth and eighth innings. Tyler Baumgartner got Oregon on the board in the fourth inning when J.B. Bryant grounded into the double play with the bases loaded. In the top of the fifth, Mark Karaviotis legged out a triple with one out and scored on A.J. Balta's groundout to short a few plays later to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs (10-17) responded later in the 5th cutting the lead to 2-1 on Jimmy Sinatro's single into left field with the bases loaded, scoring Beau Bozett with only one out. But Gonzaga failed to get another run across in the inning.

Balta would score in the top of the eighth for the Ducks on J.B. Bryant's sacrifice fly with the bases full and one out. The Zags were able to get out of the jam when Baumgartner flew out to Sam Brown in center field.

In the bottom of the ninth Gonzaga made things interesting. Oregon's Jake Reed struck out Mitch Gunsolus to open up the final frame, only to walk Caleb Wood and Payden Lamb. Sinatro came through again for the Zags, hitting a single into center field, scoring Wood to cut the lead to one again. Reed would recover to get the final two outs and secure the Ducks 20th win of the season.

Both teams will play again tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
