Aviani Signs Amateur Hockey Contract with Utica Comets

Spokane Chiefs forward Mike Aviani has signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League, affiliate of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks.


Aviani, in his fourth and final full season with the Chiefs, set career highs in goals (38), assists (43), and points (81). He was 2nd only to linemate Mitch Holmberg on the WHL’s power play scoring leaderboard with 20 goals.

A native of North Vancouver, B.C., Aviani finished his WHL career with 273 games played, tied for 16th in Spokane Chiefs franchise history. His 89 career goals are tied for 23rd in franchise history while his 207 points are tied for 22nd.

Aviani earned multiple Chiefs’ team awards as Humanitarian of the Year and Players’ Player for both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. He was named to the WHL’s Western Conference Second All-Star Team for the 2013-14 campaign.
