SPOKANE, Wash. – With weather forecasts calling for heaving rain in the greater Los Angeles area through the weekend, the Whitworth University baseball team has cancelled its upcoming trip to Southern California.
The Pirates were scheduled to play three games at Whittier College on Friday and Saturday, and a single game at Cal Lutheran on Sunday. Those games will not be made up.
"As disappointed as we are in not getting in these games so close to conference play, we need to be good stewards of the financial resources we have," said Whitworth head coach Dan Ramsay. "The rainfall in Southern California is supposed to be as bad as they've seen in quite some time. We will take advantage of the weekend off to get guys healthy and prepare ourselves for Puget Sound next weekend in Tacoma."
News reports in Los Angeles are calling for up to four inches of rain from Wednesday through Saturday as multiple storms line up off of California.
The Pirates will return to action on March 8th and 9th with a three game series at the University of Puget Sound that will open Northwest Conference play for both schools.
