SEATTLE – No. 3 Stanford hadn't lost a road game in the Pac-12 in its last 62 tries, but that didn't stop Washington as the Dawgs played their most complete game of the season, upsetting the Cardinal, 87-82. Washington got double-figures from all five starters for a complete team effort and its first win over a top-five team since 1990.

Quietly the Dawgs (13-10, 6-6 Pac-12) have been playing much better basketball of late, sweeping UCLA and USC on road and nearly upsetting No. 23 California on Friday night. The secret is out now, however, as Stanford's (22-2, 11-1) only loss had been to No. 1 Connecticut.

Stanford was the highest rated team Washington has beaten since 1990 when the Dawgs beat the then No. 2 Cardinal. It was the second win over a ranked team this season for the Dawgs, but only the second win over a top-three team in program history.

The Dawgs were led by freshman Kelsey Plum with 23 points, but had big nights from all areas. Mercedes Wetmore had perhaps the best game of her career, notching a career-high 18 points, a career-best eight rebounds, four assists and no turnovers.

Meanwhile, Talia Walton contributed 13 points, while playing great post defense on Stanford All-American Chiney Ogwumike. Aminah Williams added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Jazmine Davis chipped in 14 points, including some huge buckets in traffic down the stretch.

The Huskies used an early 12-0 run to build a comfortable cushion, but the Cardinal fought back as they would all afternoon. The Cardinal took a one-point lead with 11:47 to play in the half, but Washington responded and regained the lead, stretching it to a seven-point halftime margin. Plum had 15 points in the half, including 3-3 from 3-point range.

After the break, Ogwumike led Stanford back, scoring nine early points to cut the lead to two. Just as it appeared the top-five team and National Player of the Year candidate were about to take over the game, the Dawgs responded in the grandest of fashions.

Williams got things going with a 3-pointer from the corner as the Dawgs would use a 10-0 run to push the lead up to 12. Within the run Chantel Osahor and Wetmore also hit 3-balls, while Davis and Plum scored contested layups. From there, the Huskies would add on, leading by as many as 16, before a late Stanford run.

Down 12 with just 50 seconds to play, the Cardinal hit a couple threes as the Dawgs missed free throws and suddenly the lead was just three with eight seconds remaining. Needing to inbounds the ball, Wetmore threw long to Williams who outran the defense for the connection. She was immediately fouled and made two free throws to ice the game.

Washington finished 30-64 from the floor (46.9 percent), including 9-22 from the 3-point range (40.9 percent). Despite getting outrebounded, 57-38, Washington turned the ball over just five times and held Stanford to just 34.6 percent shooting to earn the victory.
