SPOKANE, Wash. - The No. 23 Gonzaga men's basketball team survived Portland's second half surge to win 71-66 at the McCarthey Athletic Center on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The Bulldogs (21-3, 11-1 West Coast Conference) went into the halftime break with a 40-23 lead thanks to nine points apiece off of the bench from Drew Barham and Angel Nunez.

The Zags were on fire from downtown, going 7-of-11, in the first half, but couldn't stay hot from 3-point range in the second and finished 9-of-19 in the game. Late three's from David Stockton and Kevin Pangos broke an 0-for-6 run from behind the arc and gave the necessary cushion to secure the win.

The Pilots (13-11, 5-7) were able to capitalize on Gonzaga's second half struggle's, erasing the 17-point halftime lead by the eight minute mark in the final frame. Spokane native, Ryan Nicholas, led Portland with 15 points and 15 rebounds but couldn't lead the complete comeback.

Stockton finished with 13 points, five assists and two rebounds to lead the Zags. Pangos scored seven of his 13 points in the final two minutes of the game, he added four rebounds and four assists. Nunez also had 13 points.

Gonzaga will hit the road to face No. 24 Memphis on Saturday, Feb. 8.
