Most believe the key to the Super Bowl will be how Peyton Manning plays, it may be more about Russell Wilson than everyone thinks. Most believe the key to the Super Bowl will be how Peyton Manning plays, it may be more about Russell Wilson than everyone thinks.
When the Seattle Seahawks face off with the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2nd, the folks from the Mile High City have one very big advantage on their side: future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.

But fear not, Seahawks fans, not everything is stacking up against the ‘Hawks in The Big Game.

The following are some confidence-inspiring stats to note as the Seahawks try to bring Seattle its first major sports championship since 1979:
  • Super Bowl XLVIII marks the 16th title game matchup since the AFL-NFL merger in which the league’s top scoring defense has participated. In those previous 15 games, the team with the top-ranked defense is 12-3.
  • Each of the previous six NFC teams to ranks first in the NFL in scoring defense and made it to the Super Bowl have won it all.
  • This will be just the fifth Super Bowl since the AFL-NFL merger that the top scoring defense faced the top scoring offense. The top defensive team has won three of those previous four matchups.
  • Russell Wilson is 27-9 in his career as a starter, matching Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger for the most wins by a quarterback in his first two seasons in the Super Bowl era.
  • Wilson has completed 52 percent of his passes downfield of 15 yard or more, ranking best in the NFL. The Broncos’ defense has allowed completions on 42 percent of such passes, just 16th best in the league.
  • The Broncos will wear orange uniforms for Super Bowl XLVIII. Denver has worn orange in three of the previous six Super Bowls in which they have played. They lost all three of those by an average of 31.3 points per game.
