KENNEWICK, WA - A young woman from Canada is in the Benton County Jail after Kennewick Police say she threatened to kill her boyfriend, a Tri-City Americans hockey player.

Police say 25-year-old Tieja MacLaughlin, a sports reporter from Paris, Ontario Canada, drove to Kennewick to meet up with 19-year-old Jackson Playfair.

Officers say the two had plans to visit each other on Sunday, however court documents show MacLaughlin called Playfair on the phone and told him she was coming to Kennewick early because he had been with someone else.

Police say officers met up with MacLaughlin at a hotel in Kennewick, and told her not to have any contact with Playfair. Officers say they told her if she kept trying to contact Playfair, they would arrest her for felony threats/harassment. Police say she agreed not to, and said she would go home to Canada.

Police say the next morning, Playfair called them and said MacLaughlin was texting him trying to get him to meet her.

Officers say they told him to text her back, saying he would meet her at her hotel. Police say instead, it was officers who met her, arrested her, and booked her into jail.

She's now facing charges of felony threats/harassment, and is held without bail.
