COUGARS HOST FIRST PAC-12 GAME AT BEASLEY COLISEUM THIS SEASON: Washington State University men’s basketball (7-8, 0-3) is on the hunt for its first Pac-12 victory of the season as it hosts Utah (12-3, 1-2) in its first true home Pac-12 game of the season at Beasley Coliseum, Sunday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.

• Sunday’s game can be seen on Pac-12 Networks as Jarron Collins and Rich Waltz have the call. • Bud Nameck, in his 21st year with Cougar Basketball, will have the call on the Cougar IMG Radio Network...please see the list of affiliates on page one of today’s notes.

• Live updates can be found on Twitter by following @WSUMensHoops, the official Twitter account of Washington State men’s basketball.

AGAINST THE RUNNIN’ UTES:

• Sunday marks the 18th all-time game between Washington State and Utah and third as Pac-12 foes, as the Utes hold a 14-3 advantage.

• WSU is 1-2 at home against Utah, with its first win coming last season...the other meetings at Pullman occurred Dec. 17, 1938, a 45-44 loss and Dec. 11, 1999, a 78-66 loss.

• The Cougars are 1-11 at Utah and 1-1 in neutral-site meetings.

• This season marks the first time WSU and Utah will meet twice in the same season as conference foes...they previously met twice in 1952-52 and 1957-58.

• Last season WSU scored a school-best in the series 75-points on its way to a 75-65 victory, Jan. 16, 2013 at Beasley Coliseum.

• All five starters scored in double-figures last season, led by then-senior Mike Ladd with a career-high 22 points.

• The Utes held last season’s leading scorer, senior Brock Motum, to zero points in the first half and a then season-low 14 points in the game.

• WSU scored 28 of its points off of 17 Utah turnovers.

• WSU shot .550 (11-for-20) from 3-point range, then best 3-point percentage of last season.

ABOUT THE COUGARS:

• WSU scored its most points of the 2013-14 Pac-12 season, but fell short to No. 15/17 Colorado, 71-70, in overtime in the Cougars’ home opener at Spokane Arena, Wednesday, Jan. 8.

• The Cougars are 7-7 overall and 0-3 in the Pac-12 and have lost their last three games and four of their last five games.

• WSU is 5-3 in home games this season, 1-2 in neutral-site games, 1-2 on the road, 4-2 in home games played at Beasley Coliseum and 1-1 in home games played at neutral venues (at Toyota Center in Kennewick, Wash., Dec. 18 and Spokane Arena in Spokane, Wash., Jan. 8).

• Junior DaVonté Lacy leads the team with 17.7 points per game, ranking seventh in the Pac-12 and 97th in the nation.

• Lacy missed the Cougars’ games Dec. 28 against Mississippi State and Jan. 2 at No. 1 Arizona with appendicitis, but returned for WSU’s game at Arizona State, Jan. 5, only to leave with a rib injury in the first half...he missed Wednesday’s game against Colorado and will not play Sunday against Utah.

• Fellow-junior, Royce Woolridge, is just 0.1 points shy of being the only other Cougar in double figures with 9.9 points per game...he leads the team with 3.1 assists per game after having his first career double-double with 11 assists Jan. 8 against Colorado...he ranks tied for 14th in the league with 3.1 assists per game.

• Senior D.J. Shelton leads the team and is seventh in the conference with 8.0 rebounds per game.

• He ranks 94th in the country in rebounding and has grabbed 11 or more rebounds in four of the last six games...he has three double-doubles on the season and is 3 total points away from having six double-doubles.

• Redshirt freshman Que Johnson has picked up some of the scoring with at least 18 points in three of the last five games...he had a career-high 21 points against UTEP, Dec. 21...he’s averaging 9.1 points per game.

• After scoring a career-high 24 points against Colorado, Jan. 8, junior Dexter Kernich-Drew is leading the team in scoring in Pac-12 games with 14.5 ppg in 2 games (he missed WSU’s game at Arizona, Jan. 2 with a concussion).

• Kernich-Drew is averaging 7.4 points per game on the season.

LAST OUTING:

• The Cougars led at halftime, but couldn’t hold on for the upset as they fell to No. 15/17 Colorado, 71-70 in overtime in a ‘home’ game at Spokane Arena, Wednesday, Jan. 8.

• Dexter Kernich-Drew had a career-high 24 points…his previous high was 16 against Texas A&M, Nov. 20, 2012.

• Kernich-Drew was 6-for-8 from 3-point range, 8-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

• Royce Woolridge had his first career double-double with a career-high 11 assists, adding 10 points…he had 6 of those assists in the first half…his previous high was 7 assists done against Buffalo, Dec. 21, 2012...the Cougar record for assists is 15 done by Donminic Ellison, Jan. 25, 1995.

• D.J. Shelton had his third double-double of the season and the fifth of his career, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

• Que Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime…he finished with 10 points.

• The Cougars shot a season-best .565 (13-for-23) from beyond the 3-point arc.

• Washington State tied its season high with 17 assists…also had 17 assists against Mississippi Valley State, Dec. 28…against Colorado, WSU assisted on 17 of 27 made shots.

• WSU shot a season first-half best .636 (7-for-11) from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.

• The Cougars had a season first-half high with 10 assists…Woolridge had 6 of those assists…WSU’s previous high was 8 against twice, most recently against Pepperdine, Dec. 15.

• WSU played an overtime game for the first time this season and the first time since falling to No. 23 Oregon, 79-77, Feb. 16 at Beasley Coliseum…fall to 2-8 in OT under Bone…last overtime win came during the 2010-11 season.
