WSU Football: Fall Camp Storylines

Updated:

The Cougars are getting set for the start of fall camp, which will begin on Aug. 2, but if you're planning on heading to Pullman to watch the team start practice, you might want to rearrange some plans.

According to reports, the Cougars will hold the first several days of camp down in Lewiston, Idaho.

The team will stay in dorms at Lewis-Clark State and practice at one of the local grade schools.

Washington State begins its season with a tough road game at Auburn on Aug. 31. Here are some storylines to follow as the Cougars look for improvement in Mike Leach's second season.

- Who will start at quarterback?

It's a competition between Connor Halliday and Austin Apodaca. Halliday shared time with Jeff Tuel last season, throwing for 1,878 yards, 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Apodaca redshirted last season and took plenty of reps during spring practice. It will be interesting to see who grabs a hold of the starters job during fall camp.

- Will the receiving corps be one of the best in the Pac-12?

Despite the mid-season turmoil with star receiver Marquess Wilson, the Cougars had a very balanced group of wideouts.

Gabe Marks, Dominique Williams, Isiah Myers and Brett Bartolone all had more than 435 yards receiving a year ago. Add Bobby Ratlif's 399 yards receiving to that and the Cougars have a long list of potential threats.

It will be interesting to follow the quarterback battle and see who clicks with the receivers.
