Ehlo Steps Down at Eastern Washington

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Craig Ehlo has stepped down as an assistant coach for the Eastern Washington men's basketball team after two seasons under head coach Jim Hayford.

"It was an excellent opportunity to get my feet wet at a Division I school," Ehlo told SWX on Thursday.  "It was challenging and educational.  It was a good atmosphere to work in"

Ehlo played 14 seasons in the NBA with Cleveland, Houston, Atlanta and Seattle.  He was hired at Eastern Washington shortly after Jim Hayford was named the men's basketball coach on March 29, 2011.

"I am very grateful for having the opportunity to work with a great friend in building the foundation of EWU basketball," said Hayford in a statement through Eastern Washington University. "Craig is a wonderful person and it will be great to see him back on the TV doing broadcast work. We owe a big thanks to Craig for all his contributions."

Ehlo told SWX he's undecided on what he will do next.

"TV or coaching, probably whatever comes first," said Ehlo, who previously worked as a broadcast analyst for SWX and KHQ on men's basketball broadcasts.

His son, Austin, is a walk-on receiver at Eastern Washington for the football team and is expected to rejoin the squad when classes resume in September.
