Mariners Beat Reds In Series Opener

Nick Franklin hit a two-run first-inning home run and Michael Saunders followed with a solo shot in the second and the Seattle Mariners topped the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Friday.

Brad Miller tripled to lead off the game for the Mariners and Franklin followed with a home run to give Seattle a quick lead. Saunders hit a line-drive shot in the second that quickly cleared the wall in right field.

Saunders gave the Mariners a 4-0 lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Kyle Seager.

Former Reds pitcher Aaron Harang made the lead stand with six innings two-run ball. Yoervis Medina, Charlie Furbush and Oliver Perez didn't allow a run in relief. Perez struck out the side in the ninth for his second save of the season.
