SALT LAKE CITY – Utah scored four times in the eighth inning to cap a comeback and defeat Washington State 7-4 in Pac-12 Conference baseball, Friday at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

The Utes (13-13, 3-7 Pac-12) trailed 4-3 entering the frame before rallying against Washington State (16-12, 3-4 Pac-12) reliever Kellen Camus (3-1).

With one out, Utah collected three-straight hits to tie the game 4-4. After an intentional walk to load the bases, two more hits accounted for three additional runs.

The comeback made a winner out of Mitch Watrous (2-1), who gave up four runs on 12 hits in eight innings and spoiled the start by Joe Pistorese. The Cougar southpaw yielded three runs, two earned, on six hits in seven innings. Utah's Nick Green worked the ninth for his first save.

"We got off to a good start and then stop playing," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "I wish I had an explanation for our club right now, but I don't. It's my fault."

Washington State jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the first and three in the second. Jason Monda led off the game with a single and Collin Slaybaugh walked. Consecutive fielder's choice plays earned the Cougars' first run.

In the second, Ian Sagdal tripled and Ben Roberts walked. Sagdal scored as Austin Pernell grounded into a double play. Trace Tam Sing singled and Monda launched his sixth home run of the season to extend the lead to 4-0.

Utah picked up a run in the second, fifth and seventh to cut the lead to one before the four-run eighth. Meanwhile, the Cougars put a runner on in every inning from the third through the eighth, including the leadoff hitter three times, and pushed three runners to third without adding to their lead.
