PULLMAN, Wash. – Tanner Chleborad pitched seven-shutout innings and Washington State blanked Brown 14-0, Saturday in nonconference baseball, Saturday.

Chleborad (3-3) struck out a career-high nine, walked two and limited the Bears (1-8) to two hits. The sophomore right hander did not give up a hit and faced the minimum through 5 2/3 innings. He allowed one runner to go beyond second base and threw 51 of 79 pitches for strikes.

"I had a feeling Tanner was going to be good today," Cougar Coach Donnie Marbut said. "He definitely set the tone for our team and our offense had a much better approach today."

Washington State (13-8) battered Brown starter Dave St. Lawrence (0-2) for 11 runs and 14 hits in five innings. The Cougars scored three times in the first, four more in the second and tacked on two in the third for a 9-0 lead.

Jason Monda was hit by a pitch to open the game. Trek Stemp singled and Yale Rosen doubled off the wall in center field to put Washington State on top 1-0. One out later, Adam Nelubowich singled in two runs.

In the second, Collin Slaybaugh singled, stole second and moved to third on a single by Patrick McGrath. Trace Tam Sing doubled to score both runners and Monda blasted his third home run of the season to extend the Cougars' lead to 7-0.

Washington State's runs in the third came on a sacrifice fly by Stemp and a run-scoring single by Rosen. In the fifth, Shea Donlin collected an RBI-double and scored on a single by Ben Roberts.

In the eighth, the Cougars added three runs on a run-scoring single by Pernell, a sacrifice fly by Donlin and a two-out error by Brown.

The series continues at noon, Sunday.
