Easy Transition From College to High School for Kamiakin Coach

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Kamiakin Braves girls are in the sweet 16 of the Washington regional basketball tournament. First year head coach Lane Schumacher smoothly made the switch from college men to high school girls. Kamiakin sits at 17-5 and faces a Lakes squad from Tacoma. Coach Schumacher talks about the coaching transition and the team as they get ready for Friday's game.

"Our mood is upbeat, obviously anytime you're in the final 16, with the chance to go to the final 8 in Tacoma, there's some excited girls in that locker room. But they know they need to stay focused and work hard and we've had a good week of practice so far," said Schumacher.

"It's not as big a jump or as big of a difference as I thought it would be," said Schumacher when asked about coaching in high school.  "I've said it over and over I think the girls listen a little better than the guys do. But as far as coaching girls or boys it's still, the same philosophies work for both."
