Americans clinch playoffs, set up by weekend wins and Prince George loss

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Monday the Tri-City Americans clinched the playoffs. Prince George's loss means Tri-City is in. The Americans set themselves up nicely over the weekend by taking care of business. Tri-City dominated U.S. division rivals Spokane and Portland, outscoring the pair by ten goals. Also it was breakout weekend for back-up goalie Troy Trombley.

Head coach Jim Hiller said, "Well it starts with goaltending, without a doubt, especially on the road. We needed saves early and Troy gave us those. We finished. 12 goals in two games."

"Collectively as a team we've been playing really well. Goaltending has been awesome. The forwards and defensemen have been playing well together. The D move the puck quickly to the forwards. The forwards have been back-checking and helping us out," defenseman Zach Yuen added.

"It's huge. We never knew what to expect going into the weekend, but we came out, had two of our best games of the season. It showed on the scoreboard, big games in the standings for us," forward Mitch Topping said.

This Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. join SWX at Kimo's in Richland for Americans Power Play. Win prizes, meet players and catch up on the latest with the Ams. That includes former players as we chat with Bill Lindsay, Tri-City and NHL star from the '90's. We'll also chat with Hiller and Luke Lee-Knight.
