Happy national signing day! The Tri-Cities and Yakima region recruits were headlined by Eisenhower High School quarterback Kolney Cassel. He finally made the commitment official to Southern Methodist University. Cassel dominated the big nine before his senior season cut short from injury, but he is ready for the big time.

"Yeah I'm actually really excited because they're really a rebuilding program. That's what I've always wanted to get myself into was a rebuilding program because I've always wanted to be someone who brings someone from the bottom to the top. That's what I'm working for right now," Cassel said.

The top local running back is Jonah Hoe. The Walla Walla Blue Devil commits to the University of Mary in North Dakota. He has family there and will get to play his favorite position. This year Hoe led the MCC with 1,828 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. He is a great receiver too.

"When they presented it to me and my roll, receiving my running abilities, my vision. They want to use all of it. So I'll have an opportunity to go in there and just be used really, and that's all I want," Hoe said.

Many Hanford High School football players will move up to the college level. Five Falcons signed letters of intent, including four linemen. Joe Douglas signs with Eastern Washington University. Cody Kowalski and Jake Oram are headed to Simon Fraser University. Xavier Johnson will play at Carroll College. Will Ramos goes the junior college route to Rochester, Minnesota.

"It feels great because we worked hard all summer long, we worked hard during the season," Ramos said.

" It's just all around exciting...it's two years in the making, going to camps this last summer getting our film out, like two years ago, when we were Juniors and stuff. And then following up with coaches, it's really nice to see how it all pays off," Johnson added.

River View High School also features a fab five. Lineman Kyle Hall, receivers Dylan Thomas, Ricardo Castillo, and Joshua Marshall, plus running back Kody Bartlett all signed with Eastern Oregon University. This year River View went to the 1A state semifinal for the first time.

" After the season was over, (Brett) Jay sent our film out there, they all wanted us so we went up for a visit...we all like it so, they offered us and we accepted...not all of us got offers at the same schools, but we kind of liked being with our friends and staying helped us decide to go to EOU," Bartlett said.

Prosser High School quarterback Ryan Fassler will also attend Eastern Oregon. Fassler led the Mustangs to the 2A state semi-finals. Prosser's all-state receiver Danny Rapp is still undecided but has a walk-on offer from the University of Oregon. Meanwhile Fassler is excited about his choice.

"It's a big day, a day I've worked for my whole football life. It's a very exciting day. Eastern Oregon just seemed like the right fit when I went down there and everything seemed to click down there and I really liked it. They spread it out quite a bit, they're mainly a passing team," Fassler said.

Two Southridge student-athletes join the ranks of future collegiate athletes. Emma Sanders will play soccer at Willamette University. Michelle Snider will compete in track and field at Northwest University.

"Basically just being more competitive and being able to step up and be a leader on my team, even though I will be a freshman, I think I can still be a leader. I really love the coach. I really love the girls on the team," Snider said.
