From Tri-City Americans

Everett, WA- The Americans held a lead for most of the game, but Everett stuck around and tied the game in the third period.

But Tri-City didn't get fazed and persevered through it, as Justin Feser and Malte Strömwall netted goals in a shootout to lift the Tri-City Americans (30-19-1-2, 63 pts) to a 2-1 win over the Everett Silvertips (21-28-1-3, 46 pts) in Comcast Arena.

This was the Americans fourth shootout game this season and only their second win. With a Spokane loss tonight, the Americans moved into second in the U.S. Division and fourth in the Western Conference.

Tri-City didn't need long to jump out to a lead, as Strömwall fired a shot from the slot into the net 23 seconds in to make it 1-0. Neither team had a good chance besides the early goal, with each team having six shots in the period. Tri-City had a power play chance, but couldn't convert and had a one goal lead heading into the second.

Everett picked up the momentum in the second period, outshooting the Americans 11-7. Everett had five power play chances in the second period and had some close calls, but couldn't get the puck past Luke Lee-Knight. The Americans had a couple of chances, but neither team could score as the Americans carried the one goal lead into the third.

Everett would finally get one past Lee-Knight early in the third period as Logan Aasman would score his second goal of the season to tie the game at one. Tri-City outshot the Silvertips in the third 10-4 and had some solid opportunities, but couldn't score as the game would go to overtime.

The Americans had two shots in the overtime while the Silvertips had one, but the game would be decided in a shootout. Everett shot first with Cole MacDonald missing wide. Feser shot first for the Americans and waited for Daniel Cotton to go to his knees, allowing him to fire a backhand into the top part of the goal. Aasman was the next shooter for Everett and scored, but review reversed the call after it was determined he brought the puck backwards to score. This allowed Strömwall to win the game, slipping the puck through Cotton's legs for the winning goal.

Lee-Knight made 21 saves in the win while Cotton made 24 saves in the loss.

The Americans will stay in the Puget Sound for one more night as they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds (19-29-3-1, 42 pts) tomorrow night in ShoWare Center. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The Americans have played the Thunderbirds five times this season and come out on top in three of them. The Americans have won the last three games between the two teams, including the most recent game in Kent right before the Winter Break 4-1.
