SPOKANE VALLEY, WASH – East Valley and West Valley split on a night that settled which school would earn the ‘Golden Thrown'. The girls' team for West Valley beat the Knights 52-46, while East Valley bounced back on the boys' side topping the Eagles 51-44.
For the girls, this game was a battle between undefeated teams in the GNL. West Valley came in at 3-0 in league play, while East Valley was at 4-0.
West Valley took a four-point lead at the half, and added to it in the third. The Eagles led by as much as ten and looked to be in control. Foul trouble hurt West Valley, as they reached the double-bonus early in the fourth quarter, and that allowed the Knights to go on a 19-8 run to retake the lead late in the fourth.
Once East Valley took the lead though, West Valley bounced back with a big three from Jenae Martin to retake the lead. From there, the Eagles won it on the free throw line, with big makes from Halie Gronenthal.
On the boys' side, it was a slow start for both teams, as it took nearly five minutes before one side finally made a field goal. Devante Dickerson scored the first basket of the game, giving West Valley the early lead, but from there the Knights caught fire. East Valley went on an 11-2 run with James Brown scoring seven in that stretch.
Brown finished with a game-high 33 points in the win, scoring more than half the points for East Valley.
