The 2013 Seattle Mariners Caravan rolls into Spokane on Wednesday, January 16, with a visit to Sacred Heart Medical Center and a free autograph session at Spokane Falls Community College with two of the Mariners promising young players, pitcher Charlie Furbush and outfielder Casper Wells. Former Mariners player and broadcaster Mike Blowers, a fan favorite in his playing days, and the Mariner Moose will also be along.

Over a three-week period (January 9-25), the Caravan will make stops in 26 communities across the Pacific Northwest. In addition to Spokane, other stops on this leg of the Caravan include Yakima, Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Coeur d'Alene, Walla Walla and Tri-Cities.

In Spokane, the Caravan will stop off at Sacred Heart Medical Center, 101 West 8th, for a Get Well visit from 1:45-2:45pm to visit with patients, sign autographs and pose for photos. (The hospital visit is not open to the general public.)

There will be free public autograph session at Spokane Falls Community College, Bldg. 17 (SUB ABC Lounges), 3410 W. Fort George Wright Dr., will be from 4-5:30pm. Autograph appearances are free and open to the general public. Attendees receive complimentary Mariners autographs, photos with the Mariner Moose, and the chance to win great prizes.

Pitcher Charlie Furbush was 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 48 relief appearances during the 2012 season. He was especially tough on left-handed batters who had a miniscule .147 batting average against him. Furbush recorded 33.3 scoreless innings over two stretches and was one of six Mariners pitchers who combined for a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 8.

Outfielder Casper Wells spent time at the Major League level and with the Mariners AAA club, the Tacoma Rainiers, last season. He appeared in 93 games, including 87 games in the outfield where his defense led the team with eight outfield assists. He had a career high seven-game hitting streak from June 13-20.

Mike Blowers is entering his 7th season as the Mariner television analyst. He did three tours as a Mariners player (1992-95, 1997, 1999). During his 11 year Major League career, Blowers also played for the Yankees (1989-91), Dodgers (1996), and Athletics (1998). Blowers was a stand-out at Bethel High School in Spanaway and was a Pac-10 Triple Crown winner while with the University of Washington.

During Week 3 of the Caravan, stops will include Mt. Vernon, Bellingham, Ferndale, Vancouver, BC, Delta, BC, Surrey, BC, Bellevue, Tacoma and Tukwila.
