One American Celebrated Christmas Early

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Tri-City Americans are in the middle of their extended Christmas break, getting eight days to relax and see friends and family. But some Americans have to travel a little farther to go home and when they get home, they celebrate the holidays a little differently. For example Michal Plutnar, from the Czech Republic, is celebrating Christmas today.

"Our Christmas starts the 24th of December and it's a regular day but we open presents on the 24th," said Plutnar. "What's different? It's the food. We have trout usually trout, it's like a traditional meal, with mashed potatoes."

Plutnar also brought up Santa Claus, "It's the same thing it's just different name you know Czech name for him but he's red and everything's the same. Yeah we have Christmas music, Christmas movies everything's the same, just like America."
