Goal in Final Minute Lifts Kamloops Past Tri-City

Posted: Updated:

From Tri-City Americans

Kamloops, BC- Kamloops wanted revenge for their loss earlier this season.

They got that revenge, as the Kamloops Blazers (21-6-1-1, 44 pts) added to their league leading point total, scoring in the final minute of the third period to earn a 3-2 win over the visiting Tri-City Americans (16-10-1-1, 34 pts) in the Interior Savings Centre.

Kamloops extended its home win streak against Tri-City to three. Tri-City has lost three straight games and five in a row on the road.

The first period started off physical and remained throughout. Tri-City got on the board first as Beau McCue picked up a Kamloops turnover and fired it into the top right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. Both teams had excellent scoring chances and the Americans outshot the Blazers 13-12. JC Lipon had a couple of chances at the doorstep, but Eric Comrie stoned him both times as the Americans went into the second period with the lead.

The lead would not last long in the second period as JC Lipon put home a loose puck to tie the game at one early in the second. And Kamloops would take the lead on a Colin Smith goal as he put home a rebound to make it 2-1 Blazers. The Blazers had more chances than the Americans in the second and outshot Tri-City 13-10. Both teams had a power play but neither team capitalized on the opportunity as the Blazers went into the final period with a one goal lead.

The Americans pressed in the third period to tie the game, and finally did just that as Parker Bowles tied the game with a little over five minutes remaining in the game. But Kamloops would gain the lead with 38 seconds left in the game as Chase Souto juked out Comrie to score. Tri-City had a 6-on-5 advantage for the final 30 seconds, but couldn't tie the game as Kamloops held on for the win.

Justin Feser failed to score a point, ending his point streak at six games.

Comrie recorded 32 saves in the loss, while Cole Cheveldave had 26 saves in the win.

Tri-City has one final road game in British Columbia against the Vancouver Giants (7-19-0-0, 14 pts) in Pacific Coliseum. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The Americans defeated the Giants in the first meeting 9-1 in Kennewick, scoring five goals in the second period en route to the victory. Feser recorded a hat trick and an assist in the win.
