Washington State Volleyball Falls In Three To No. 5 Washington

PULLMAN -- The Washington State volleyball team (13-19, 3-17 Pac-12) ended its 2012 season with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-22 loss to No. 5 Washington (23-6, 14-6) Friday night before a season-high crowd of 1,289 fans at Bohler Gym.

UW's Kylin Munoz led the match with 13 kills, hitting .310 and tagging eight blocks. Amanda Gil led the match with 10 blocks as the Huskies had a 14.5 to 7.5 advantage in team blocks. Jenna Orlandini had 17 digs and Cassie Strickland added 11 digs. Setter Kay Beals had 20 assists and Melanie Wade had four of UW's 10 aces.

WSU was led by the seven kills from Jaicee Harris while Rachel Todorovich added six kills. Kate Sommer had 14 digs and Camryn Irwin set up 18 assists. Marcelina Glab, Ver'Leea Hardaway, Chelsey Bettinson and Todorovich had three blocks each.

The Huskies hit a mere .153 in the win while WSU hit .000 for the match. Washington will await an NCAA at-large bid Sunday afternoon while the Cougars end the season with one more win than in 2011.

"This team has fought all year and it was evident especially Wednesday against Arizona when we did a great job," Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "Washington is an unbelievable team and they had those great serves that really dictated the play early on. I was really proud of the way we came back and fought in the third set and that's what this team has done all year. Being able to take that into the spring and into next year is going to be good."
