Washington State Dismantles Utah Valley 72-49

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Brock Motum scored 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field to help Washington State crush Utah Valley 72-49 on Wednesday night.

Mike Ladd added 13 points, DaVonte Lacy chipped in 11 and hit three 3-point baskets and contributed with six assists to help Washington State (2-0) start its season perfect.

Washington State ended the half with a commanding 45-22 lead which included nailing seven 3-pointers in the half. The Cougars would stretch their lead to 64-36 with just over 11 minutes to play.

The Cougars executed the perfect inside-out game plan and the Cougars exposed the undersized Utah Valley posts. Washington State would outscore the Wolverines 40-20 in the paint and shoot 58 percent from the field in the first half. Utah Valley (1-2) would end the night shooting 51 percent from the field.

SWXRIGHTNOW.COM - This evening, fans will file into the Beasley Coliseum to watch the Washington State Cougars try to improve their record to 2-0 on this very young basketball season.

The Cougs face off with the Wolverines of Utah Valley, currently 1-1 and first in the Great West Conference, at 7 p.m. tonight. Washington State is looking to continue the momentum they created with an 88-69 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles on November 10.

Senior forward Brock Motum was the star of that match up, finishing the game with 23 points and ten rebounds in 29 minutes of playing time. The team as a whole shot 54% from the field, which has them ranked 20th in the nation in field goal percentage at this point in the season.

WSU will have to look out for the Wolverines' 6'9" Junior center who, in two games, is averaging a double-double with 14 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.

This is only the beginning of the Cougars' non conference schedule, which will be no walk in the park, as they will meet #7 Kansas and #19 Gonzaga in the upcoming weeks. It is important the Cougars set a winning tone to build off of as the season progresses.
