Coeur d'Alene meets its match Friday night in the 5A state semifinals in Pocatello. Their cross-state opponent just happens to be one of just two teams who beat them this year: Highland.
The Rams beat the Vikings 45-26 on Coeur d'Alene's home field back in September. They brought a powerful offense that racked up 190 yards on the ground to go with 219 through the air.
But Coeur d'Alene quarterback Gunnar Amos threw for 264 yards of his own that night. The problem was, the Vikings couldn't find the end zone when they most needed a score.
Friday is a new night and a new game – a chance for Coeur d'Alene to set things right. This time the game is on Highland's home turf inside Holt Arena at Idaho State University.
Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. (PT). The winner of tonight's game advances to play either top-ranked Madison (Rexburg) or Lake City (Coeur d'Alene).
Lake City to Face Madison in 5A Semifinals
The second 5A semifinal game of the night is another North vs. East game, with Lake City taking on Madison in the late game at Pocatello's Holt Arena.
Madison boasts a quarterback, Logan Anderson, who can both throw the ball well from the pocket and effectively scramble if he has to avoid pressure. The Bobcats run a spread offense from which Anderson has thrown for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for 462.
Should Lake City beat Madison and Coeur d'Alene beats Highland, the 5A title game would be played at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
