The Santa Cruz Warriors selected former Washington State guard Faisal Aden with the 13th pick in the third round of the NBA Development League draft Friday.
Aden played at Washington State the past two seasons, averaging 14.5 points as a senior before tearing his ACL in a January game at Arizona. The Somalia native led the Cougars in scoring in seven games, and scored in double figures in 13 of the 17 games in which he played during the 2011-12 season.
Aden ranks 17th on WSU's all-time scoring list (13.3 ppg), second in free-throw percentage (.830) and 14th in steals average (1.34 spg).
The 2012-13 season will mark the inaugural season for the Warriors in Santa Cruz. Prior to its move, the team was known as the Dakota Wizards. Santa Cruz is the minor league affiliate for the Golden State Warriors.
